The Ka'a'gee Tu (gaa-gay-too)
area of interest is
approximately 8700km2. It is situated in the south-eastern corner of
the Dehcho region and includes a large portion of the Kakisa River
watershed
The people of Ka'a'gee Tu want to maintain their cultural
heritage by ensuring their traditional landscape is maintained now and
in the future.
The area is rich in wildlife. Healthy populations of
moose, beaver, fish and many species of waterfowl have sustained the Ka'a'gee Tu for generations. Important boreal woodland caribou habitat
also extends throughout the area.
The wetlands known as
Etaáhdlîî
along the Upper Kakisa River and Beaver Lake along the
area's northern boundary are internationally and nationally recognized
as important sites for waterfowl.
